Smoking is one of the major cause of heart diseases in most of the countries and many people die every year and affects almost every person no matter what his age is. It does not only affect the smoker but the people around him. It can lead to coronary heart diseases and the substances present in the cigarette cause plaques in the arteries which blocks them and is a major cause of atherosclerosis in which fatty substances build up in the arteries. Atherosclerosis occurs when lining of the arteries deteriorates, the walls of arteries thicken and fat is deposited in the arteries that blocks the flow of blood and the organs are deprived of oxygen and other nutrients as a result. This causes extra strain on the heart and causes chest pain or angina. When the coronary artery gets blocked due to a blood clod, heart attack occurs. Now what smoking does is that it speeds up the process of atherosclerosis. It damages the lining of the blood vessels and heart and as a result causes blood clot to form earlier then it happens in other cases and so the more you smoke the more are the chances of heart attack. Apart from that it can also cause high blood pressure, stroke and many other heart problems.
Nicotine is one of the main toxin present in a cigarette and its a stimulant. When a person smokes, its taken quickly into the blood and carried to all parts of the body. Then all the excretory effects cause the heart to over work and this happens whenever you smoke so it is likely to cause heart diseases.
Apart from that another toxin inside smoke is Carbon Monoxide which a very harmful gas as it combines with hemoglobin ( which transfers oxygen to other parts of the body ) and reduces its capacity to transport oxygen. It forms a bond with hemoglobin that is unbreakable and form carboxyhemoglobin. As a result, less oxygen will be delivered to the heart resulting in decreased work capacity and in order to provide proper oxygen to organs, your heart will have to work faster and cause heart diseases.
So, Smoking effects your heart in every possible way. It increases the blood clotting time, increases your blood pressure, reduce the amount of oxygen transported to organs, blocks arteries, stroke and so many problems so why not try and quit smoking and live a healthy life. So many people die every year and yet people smoke thinking they can relieve tensions and worries without knowing the affects of smoking on themselves. So try and quit it now.
