Hi,
The TV show Mythbusters took on a number of cola myths, including ones you mentioned. Some were proven false. Here are the result: http://mythbustersresults.com/episode5

Coca-Cola is less acidic than gastric juices (stomach acids used to digest food) in the human stomach that are 1-2pH and it can withstand more acidic liquids. As for leaching the calcium out of bones, this is untrue however people who drink coca-cola do have lower intake of calcium, magnesium, ascorbic acid, riboflavin, and vitamin A but this is due to diet, the cola does not get rid of anything.

It is also a myth that Highway Patrol use Coke to clean up accident scenes. They are not allowed as that would destroy evidence for forensics!

Still the gist of your article is right — soft drinks are horribly bad for you….

My dentist told me to quit drinking coke because it is pretty much killing my teeth and I now have 1st effects of gum disease from the acid in coke between my teeth. I haven’t gained weight, but my calorie intake just from coke is around 800 cal!

I am a music teacher who sees all the kids in a junior school ages 6-13. I did a little survey today. About 95% of the kids in each class I saw today said they drink Coke every day. Many of them are grossly overweight. Some are very hyperactive. Naturally, this proves nothing - the kid who drank coke also were the ones, mostly, who ate junk food such as ‘cheese curls’.

Some comments:
A boy of about 9 said his ‘tummy was burning up from coke’, and after he stopped drinking it, the pain stopped.

A girl said one of her buddies placed a tooth in a bit of coke in a glass. By morning it was gone.

I’m totally agree that these soft drinks are even more worse than you mentioned. What I’ve seen in hospitals is a good testimony, so many people comes with renal stones, osteoporosis and peptic ulcers,…..ect. with a history of taking large amount of soft drinks. Then if you know a little bit about physiology you clearly knows what ascorbic acid do to your body.

i really impressed by your explanation that how harmful soft drinks are . today , about 95 % people are ill by drinking soft drinks because it has pesticides . i totally agree that these soft drinks are even more worse than you mentioned .energy drinks such as real is more good than soft drinks .if you will drink soft drinks that means you are drinking pesticides.

yeah,,,,,,,we shud not drink such a a drinks like coke, pepsi and many others………..Coz they r acidic which destory enamel of our teeth and finally destroys……..plzzz stop drinking such a dangerous drinks which r so harmful for human body…

ryan said in December 8th, 2009 at 6:02 am

of course they would need the blood for forensic analysis, but i mean they don’t keep it there permanently, its logical that you would use cook as the acidic properties would lift dried blood right off the pavement.

Can you please post links to the research studies that support your claim? It would be great to know the actual findings, but as is the article doesn’t point to any conclusive proof. Specifically, there should be links to several double-blind studies of varied human population and geography that show correlation and, if possible, causality.
